SPRINGFIELD, MA - In an exciting showdown at the 2024 Spalding HOOPHALL Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts, the #15 La Lumiere boys' national basketball team went head-to-head with #9 AZ Compass Prep, delivering a game that had spectators on the edge of their seats to the final horn.
The opening quarter saw La Lumiere trailing 18-12, but the Lakers were determined to turn the tide. Heading into the locker room, the Dragons maintained a slight lead with a score of 28-24. Despite the deficit, La Lu showcased superb teamwork and distribution of the rock in the first half, notching nine assists on nine made field goals.
As the second half unfolded, La Lumiere orchestrated a comeback led by stellar performances from key players. Jerry Easter took control in the scoring department, contributing all 13 of his points in the second half. Easter also cleaned up on the glass with six rebounds and three crucial steals.
Steve Solano played a pivotal role in the paint, racking up 10 points and securing nine rebounds, while Jalen Haralson made significant contributions with seven points and six assists. Chuck Love III stepped up in the third quarter, sinking three crucial free throws to give the Lakers a 34-32 advantage and a turning point of the game. The Lakers demonstrated their clutch performance from the charity stripe, connecting on 10-of-11 shots.
In a nail-biting conclusion, La Lumiere managed to secure a 47-46 victory over AZ Compass Prep. This marked the Lakers' second consecutive win, bringing their overall record to 11-3, including a 5-3 record in EYBL play.
Looking ahead, La Lumiere will return to the court on Wednesday at historic Marsch Gymnasium, where they will host Wilson Academy (GA) with a tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
