The La Lumiere National Boys Basketball team went 2–0 at the Dr Pepper Classic in Chattanooga this weekend, earning wins over McCallie High School (80–40) and Oak Hill Academy (81–75).
In the marquee matchup against Oak Hill, the Lakers faced adversity early, trailing 47–35 at halftime. Oak Hill extended the lead to seven early in the third quarter, but the momentum shifted quickly. With 17 seconds left in the period, Jon Sanderson charged in for a layup, then stole the inbound pass for another quick basket. Moments later, Devin Cleveland disrupted an Oak Hill shot attempt, allowing Sanderson to recover the ball and feed it back to Cleveland for a buzzer-beating layup to cut the deficit to just one, 56–55, and ignite the momentum going into the fourth quarter.
Ferlandes Wright opened the period by knocking down two free throws to give the Lakers their first lead of the half, 57–56, followed by two more made free throws from Peyton Kemp to extend the advantage.
With 1:36 remaining, Cleveland converted two free throws to push the lead to 75–70. Sanderson added another free throw, and Wright delivered the dagger—a three-pointer with 30 seconds left—to make it 79–70. Oak Hill responded with a three and a layup to trim the margin to 79–75 with 15 seconds remaining, but Sanderson calmly stepped to the line and sank two free throws to seal the 81–75 victory.
The Lakers controlled the interior, finishing +16 in the paint, while also getting 18 points off the bench and knocking down 12 three-pointers at a 43% clip.
