La Porte, IN - La Lumiere hosted Andrews Academy on October 31 for their season opener and became victorious, winning 61 to 18.
Senior Shena Fleming started the game with 11 of the 23 points in the first half. While she did most of her shooting mainly inside the paint, she seemed unstoppable, further going on to score another seven points in the second half causing the student section to have immense energy towards her and the game. Fleming tallied 19 points in the game on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
Sophomore Addison Penziol and junior Nuala Connolly, were also strong on the scoring side, putting up a combined 19 points total and being of vital importance on the defensive side. Erin Morrison had a strong game off the bench scoring six points and grabbing a team-high 10 boards.
In the second half, La Lu worked together to keep Andrew's scoring numbers low. Connolly, a 5' 10" guard from South Burlington, VT was constantly blocking numerous shots all over the court in the second half. In a combined effort, the Lakers halted the Cardinals to only scoring 11 points in the second half. The Lakers swiftly swept the Andrews Academy Cardinals away, to start their season 1-0. They will play again on November 11 against CHAP at Marsch Gymnasium.
